Which of these processors is better, or faster?
    Core i3 2310m, i3 2357m, i5 2537m, i5 2467m, i7 2617m, i7 2637m or i7 2657m?
    Compare Intel® Products

The 2310m is the only one who has more than 2 GHz clock But just as the 2357m, has no TurboBoost.
The CPU's are 17 watts from 1.3 to 1.7 GHz clock. Some of these have performance equal to or higher than 2310m ?
I do not mean graphics performance, only CPU.
    thanks

For multicore software, just compare base clockspeed since that's what makes the difference. For single core, check the maximum speed with or without Turbo boost to compare. Whether you will notice a difference depends on what type of applications you use and for what purpose. Ignore TDP for speed.

This is a useful table. i5-2467, i5-2557, i7-2637, i7-2677 are the best because they are ULV and don't compromise graphics power much. They'll all be faster than the i3-2310 too since the i3 doesn't have turbo.

Faster... if you'll be taking advantage of it. Most users will not notice any difference since most programs are not stressful on the CPU and hence all CPUs will run at similar, downclocked speeds.

Thinkpads run at turbo frequencies all the way to 95C before they throttle. Main point is the ULV Sandy Bridge processors beat the i3-2310 in all respects.

My i7-2617M is plenty eager to boost up to 2.3GHz (still in dual core) when I push it. I tested it for a while with Prime95 and it stayed pinned at 2.3, without getting in to dangerous thermal territory (hovered around 81c, though dropped to ~72c if I propped the laptop up a few inches to increase ventilation).

Could you please run CPU-Z or Hwinfo and post what the lowest frequency and voltage is? It would have been nice if they had offered a better ULV processor like yours rather than the i5-2537 in the X220 (which they charge a ton for).

Attached... I now also had a look at CPU-Z while Prime95 was running, and took a screenshot of that result as well. But today I saw the frequency bounce a bit between 1.9-2.3 (CPU was running a few degrees hotter as well, due to increase in ambient temp). Yesterday I was basing the max frequency on the Lenovo power manager, which showed the CPU frequency pinned at 153% (1.5GHz * 153% = 2.3GHz)

Very interesting, as my i5-2540M (35W TDP) also clocks down to 800 Mhz when idle and the voltage is only 0.760V, which is actually lower...
