    Hey guys..

Yesterday I got myself a LG A510 notebook..
It seems one of the newest product of LG company and it is not out everywhere..
The notebook is very fast and very nice in my opinion.. everything was fine until I tested the temperatures of CPU cores under gaming or prime95 and furmark... The results were terrible..
I am kind of new to this stuff and I want to get your opinion..

So we have winter and my room is around 25-28 degrees Celcius

the laptop has i3 370m processor, runs in windows 7 home premium 64 bit.. it has 4gb ram and gt 425m processor..

I got same results from 3 different CPU monitoring utilies: Realtemp, Coretemp, Speedfan:

    Results:

I played Dragon Age and Max temperature springed to 86 degrees Celcius.. which is 4 degrees under TJ Max... Average temperature seems to be around 80 degrees Celcius.. Fans are spinning but they seem to react slow... (With another notebook: acer 3820tg the cpu stayed 70 degrees celcius)... So... 86 degrees must be terrible

I played Call of Duty Black Ops and got same results

I wanted to try an much older game: Battlestations Midway: temperature was around 77 degrees celcius..

I decided to run prime95 + furmark and temperatures of both cores reached to 90 degrees celcius within couple of minutes...

Idle temperature of the CPU seems to be normal varying between 28-40 degrees

After this results today I brought the notebook immediately to the shop back..they said they ll make tests they also added the notebooks get so warm during gaming... GOD I know this already ! But this gets very HOT ! it is anormal.. it should have stayed at least at 70-75 degrees... why 85 ? almost TJ Max .. and we are in winter..

So I think I may have a faulty CPU.. or the fans are not working correct.. This notebook is very nice.. its only problem is this overheating.. Do you guys have any opinion ? I am sure the shop will say this computer has no problem and they will give it back to me.. as they mostly do.. and maybe I will send it to LG service

Actually it's not abnormal, all the current i series CPU ranges from i3 to i7, they all run fairly hot, many of them easily go up to 85 C under load, just search the forum a bit. If you are that worried about temp, get a good laptop cooler and also consider repasting your CPU.

Thanks a lot for the answer.. well I was worried because I got better results with my previous notebooks with identical configuration (i3 370m) but I did not like those notebooks for several reasons.. I actually loved this new LG A510.. But it has (+13 more degrees)

Hrm kinda odd as it's a 35 watt dual core, but adding in hyper threading and I can see it getting pretty hot. Does BIOS have an option to disable hyper threading? Cause if you aren't using it, it is just adding additional heat.

Also it is a notebook, so it won't run anywhere near a desktop.

And if it's brand new there's not really going to be dust and crud in the cooling system, so if it really bothers you can repaste but it should be under LG warranty...or you could try to exchange it for another one..

It's hot. Perhaps you should reseat the heatsink, apply some good quality thermal grease on it and see if the situation changes.

In my opinion OP, the 3820TG is the exception rather than the rule. MOST i-series CPUs in laptops run mid-80s in CPU-intensive games, even with cooling.

If it goes into mid-90s then a few things can STILL be done (repasting, better cooler, DIY vent mods, etc) before you should give up.

Yeah I think it is pretty hot.. Not only with 3820tg I have compared this but also I compared it with a dell with same config (i3 370m)... During same gaming Dell also stayed at 73 degrees at Max.. while new LG maxed 86.... I would not really worry if there had been 5-6 degrees difference..

I gave the laptop to the support.. Probably they will give it back to me.. I will reuqest a replacement of the unit..

I guess I may have a faulty CPU.. (It runs with 28-36 degrees on idle but it has strange jumps without reason to 56 degrees and so on)

Battlestations Midway: 77 degrees maxing in this notebook and 58 degrees Max in Dell and Acer....

Depends on the laptop but the arrandale chips can withstand a lot of heat. my i5 430m used to reach 90oC when gaming and i was fine with it.

unfortunately i3 370m can withstand 90 degrees celcius... and that s why my 86-88 degrees annoy me...

    i3 were mostly a bit cooler than i5 s

Where can one find out how much heat / what temp a CPU can withstand?
