Hello. I have a Lenovo Y580 with i5 3210m and GTX660m. My use is gaming mostly. Will the CPU upgrade to i7 3610qm give me any performance boost? Is it worthy?
-
In CPU dependent games, of course it would.
-
yes it will. There might be quite a lot of games where your processor is holding you back. I did a similar upgrade myself (from 3210m to 3720qm), only thing you have to watch out for is the extra heat your quad core will generate. I would advise to repaste everything with good paste.
-
Yes i think ill use MX-4 or 5. The only doubt i have is screwing up and destroying my laptop. But i wanna try it myself rather going to a professional.
-
ignore the 36xx series, go for the 37xx and higher. You will get more MHZ with XTU -> more fps in game.
-
Yes i know that. I want the 3820qm but its way more expensive, and for 0.4 more GHz i dont think its worthy. If i find a better deal i will surely take it.
-
only works with the right bios i think.
IMO just get the best deal out there, weather that is a 3630, 3610 or 3940 -
What do u mean it works only with the right bios?
-
Your BIOS should have the microcode for the CPUs... The 3720QM/3820QM should work.. The 3920/3940XM probably won't work!
-
Oh i see. Not a problem cause i will buy 3610qm or 3630qm
-
i mean to be able to overclock the 37xx, 38xx series you need to have an unlocked bios
-
I would never try to overclock on a laptop especially mine that gets very hot.
-
Processor not give as much as boost in performance if you want performance boost change your graphic card and RAM then all your game run with great performance.
-
I cannot upgrade my GPU, the only upgrades i can do are Ram ( which already did ) and CPU
-
so your laptop with the i5 already runs very hot? (what temps)
and then you think its a good idea to upgrade to a quad core? -
With a stress test i just did my CPU: 70-71C MAX
All these without a stand/cooler.( Stress test was for 15min. ) -
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
-
Thanks for saying that cause i dont know so much about temps.
i5 3210m to i7 3610qm
