How much faster is an i5 (or i3) dual core vs any other dual core on the market? I have an Athlon II x2 and was thinking about upgrading but is the i5 dual core really that much better?
How does the i5 stack up to the Phenom ii triple core?
I think the intel i-series processors are overrated unless you get an i5 or i7 quad core.

You can get some ideas from this table.

Depending on the benchmark that is important to you even an i3 350M is above the Phenom x4 (the x3 is not showing scores...).
So I guess your opinion of how overrated the i-series has now changed?

A quick google search could have easily netted you the same info we dug up.
So, what is your intended use and with which apps? -
Really depends on what you're doing too. If you're just going on the web or typing up the occasional document, the fastest CPU won't make much difference.

I wouldn't take passmark as the gospel.

Second what ZaZ wrote. For the casual user, CPUs won't be any different since they won't be fully utilized hence they all underclock to similar speeds.
