    I'm really struggling between a variety of i5-430UM laptop models vs i5-450M

    M 2.4 -> 2.93
    IntelĀ® Core? i5-450M Processor (3M cache, 2.40 GHz) with SPEC Code(s) SLBTZ

    UM 1.2 -> 1.73
    IntelĀ® Core? i5-430UM Processor (3M cache, 1.20 GHz) with SPEC Code(s) SLBVS

    I can't really find anything that compares CPU's... any idea if the UM i5 is usable?

    EDIT- usable meaning, will a notice a large difference. Are their specs for direct compare or maybe I can compare through indirect comparisons made to Core 2 Duos?

    Usable for what?

    It's fine for everyday use, but I wouldn't go that route, if you need to do any heavy lifting.

    The 430M will accomplish tasks like video encoding or image rendering in Photoshop much quicker, but both are capable at doing everyday tasks like internet and HD video.

    I only did one test (superPi), but my i7 640um is about as fast as my C2D t9500.

    The regular i5 is a fair amount faster, but the low voltage models are far from slow. If you want the small form factor or extra battery life the UM models are great. For max performance the regular models are the way to go.

    SuperPI is a terrible test since it's only single threaded. The T9500 should perform superior to the 640UM.
