After doing some research on the 2630QM, I am so confused to how much RAM the processor can support. Intel website says 8GB max, depending on memory type.

Despite this, I see many computers with this processor shipping up with more than 8GB RAM.

What's the deal here? Are the computer's shipping out too much RAM, is there a problem with Intel's spec listing here, or is there something I'm missing?

All quads support 4 mem slots (over 2 channels) and up to 4GB per dimm giving 16GB.

So is this true for this processor, despite the fact that the INTEL website states 8GB max?

    Intel® Core? i7-2630QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.00 GHz)

Just want to be extra careful before I buy is all.

I think its 16GB at 1333Mhz clock. This mostly comes as laptops with 2630QM can be bought with 16GB of ram.

Yeah, loads of 2630QMs come with 16GB of ram, up to 1333mhz support (the 2720QM supports 1600mhz ram and higher integrated graphics turbo).

Then the 2820QM sports more cache (8MB vs 6MB).

not necessarily, although intel claims that the 2630qm dont support 1600+ memory it actually does, but unless you do use the igp for gaming it makes little sense

its the same for the dual cores

Alright, thanks everyone. I guess that pretty much clarifies my doubt.
