I ran passmark, and scored 7900 with my 2720qm. It's in a NP8170, no overclocking or anything special. That seems signifigantlly higher then the score here:
PassMark Intel vs AMD CPU Benchmarks - High End
In fact it's higher than the 2760 and 2820. Is it normal to have a large spread on passmark scores?

SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
i just ran it and i have a CPU score of 7808 so your score is pretty good
are you consistently getting 7900? -
Yes, it's normal. The behavior of mobile Sandy Bridge CPUs is greatly affected by the cooling system. The 2720QM is nominally a 2.2 GHz CPU, but with all 4 cores active, it can run at up to 3.0 GHz without any overclocking. Yours is in a huge laptop with a heavy duty cooling system so chances are it spends most of its time fairly close to 3.0 GHz (maybe 2.9 or 2.8).
That said, beware of using PassMark as an indicator of real-life performance. It generally in the right vicinity, but it assigns certain properties (e.g. hyperthreading) a lot more value than most applications get out of them. -
I did a few runs with my 2630qm and scored around 6.9k in all tests, it's considerably higher than the listed 6.3k too.
As Athernai said, cooling system can play a big part on the performance of SB CPUs. Also keep in mind, the score they put on the site is the average value of user submitted scores, some people may have something running in the background that requires CPU power while running the benchmark, and they probably don't even know.
