I'm never going to overclock my laptop, but I'm really interested in the idea of undervolting. If I'm looking to under-volt for the explicit purpose of cooling the system during gaming, which one of these CPUs would be better suited?
They seem pretty similar in features, just wondering about people's experiences. This is in a Clevo.

Undervolting, just like overclocking, is the luck of the draw. And ultimately it will not be a night and day difference between the two processors (undervolting).
I'd always buy the higher performance processor for any platform I'm keeping past 18 months or so.

With about 6% faster single thread responsiveness and almost 13% better multithreaded prowess, the i7-6700HQ would have to be considerably cheaper ($200 or more) for me to consider it over the i7-6820HK today. -
Thanks for the info. I feel happier now that i opted for the 6820
-
6820HK is already lower voltage than the 6700HQ at the same TDP

I'll keep posting my 6820hk UV limits. I think mine go something like -130-150mv to keep 3.8Ghz on all cores. The temperatures are great with the -125mv I have currently (didn't had time to test more). With 3.8Ghz is crashs if I try higher then 180mvs.

With-125mV and 3.8ghz on all cores I don't have Throttle and thermals are around 80-85ºC on long gaming sessions (Witcher 3). On a 3dmark bench I get around 75-77ºC.
My G752VS is stock, so I guess these are good values. Without undervolting I had throttling and CPU temps go to 97ºC.... So Undervolting is a must for this model. I guess that a repaste would help a lot, but as long as I'm in warranty period i'm not opening the laptop. -
Yeah lol 6700HQ is horrible.. 3.1GHz lol... Haven't had such a low speed on a CPU since my 740QM lol..Papusan likes this.
i7-6700HQ or i7-6820HK for undervolting
