    i7-9750H or i7-9850H?

    That depends on the implementation of the manufacturer.

    The reason why the 9750h seems to perform better may be due to many manufacturers setting higher than spec (45w) power limits on their laptop.

    The few laptops ive seen using the 9850h suffer from poor thermal management so that may very well be the reason the benchmarks favor the 9750h which is found in many well cooled gaming laptops.

    Great point, thanks. So the benchmarks come from laptops that use the CPU rather than from the CPU itself on a test rig or something?

    That makes sense

    So if you had to choose between the two processors in the same laptop, obviously go for the 9850 then?

    What's the price difference? From what I can tell, the difference is a pitiful 100MHz in single core loads...

    Due to Turbo boost, both of these chips will perform the same in multi core loads.

    Thanks. Difference is £31.85, so pretty insignificant compared to the cost of the whole laptop...

    Actually, the 9850h is overclockable by 400mhz on each speed bin.

    Meaning you can get a single core of 5ghz and an all core boost of 4.5ghz.

    That is, if you don't run into any thermal or power limits first.

    What laptop model is that?

    The difference is usually at least some 150-200€/$/£ between those two cpu's.

    Dell Precision 7740. On their configuration options for a new laptop. I'll go for the 9850 then!

    The Core i7-9850H is an enterprise/development-aimed chip. The clockspeed difference is negligible versus the Core i7-9750H, but as @seanwee noted, it is overclockable. You can use ThrottleStop to do so.

    The Core i7-9850H has the following advantages over the Core i7-9750H: Intel vPro support, TSX-NI, Trusted Execution Technology, and Intel Stable Image Platform Program support.

    It's worth the small upcharge just for the overclocking features, IMO.
