Does anyway know if I can use an iphone headset (phone & mic) into my headphones plug on my Dell? I just want to use them as headphones so I don't need the mic to work. Will this type of plug work for headphones into the headphone port?

Did you try?

yes plugging a iphone headset into a normal audio out makes them work as normal ear phones. The mic will not work unless you have a single plug like the iphone. Some HP laptops had a plug like that not sure about Dell.

Yes, it will definitely work (except the mic).

It will work absolutely fine. Now for the science, if anyone's interested:
If you look at a few pictures & think about how it works, the connector was designed such that whenever you increase the number of ways on the jack (stereo into a mono socket, or stereo + mic into a stereo socket as in this case), any extra connections will simply short to ground and not work.
(I do a lot of things with audio, and am bored...)
