I have a 6 months old inspiron 6400 (1500) and i wanted to replace the 1.6 Ghz pentium dual core (T2060) with a new T7200 or a T7400.
Can i go ahead and do this ? I think T7200 is 100 compatible . . . waht about T7400/T7600 ? ?

They will all physically fit. They will work if the BIOS supports it.

I don't think it is worth the effort, time and money for it.

well i can say is the T7200 will defo work. Also i can say that the T7400 will also work (if im think of the right processor, the 2.13ghz one) because i remember dell offering it on the 6400 before, but not too sure about the T7600.

I'm not sure hwo much these cpus would be to buy individually but it might well be very very expensive. Is it really worth that much?

Like the other members have said, its probably not worth the upgrade. The only performance increase you will see is in just processor intensive applications. It may be bettee to invest the money in a faster hard disk and/or more RAM.

If you're thinking of upgrading simply because the Pentium Dual-Core is the budget Intel processor, don't. The Pentium Dual-Cores are actually decent processors - they are Core Duos with half the cache and a reduced FSB speed.
What do you do with this computer?
