Hello everyone-
I have a few questions as to how to get my laptop fixed. A while ago I tried to install a firewire card in the ExpressCard 34 slot. During install something inside the port broke and after I removed the card, I looked in and saw the spring-loaded mechanism inside the port is stuck in the open position. In other words the little button you push, to remove the original plastic slot cover, is now "stuck" in the out position. I am using tape to hold the button in during transportation of the laptop from my house to college (about 90 miles away).
My first question is:
1) Will Dell replace the entire port, just part of it, or not acknowledge the damaged parts?
Another problem (and it is big depending on how you look at it) is that whenever I am viewing the internet and listen to a music player (like Microsoft Media Player) the CPU fan kicks on and the laptop overheats badly. Enough to the point where it has shut off completely and will not restart for about 30 minutes until it cools down. I think the problem is in the thermal paste used (if any) on the CPU.
The Next question is:
2) Would Dell fix the overheating problem or would they again refuse to acknowledge the problem?
Thanks for the help and your time,

Are you still under warranty? If so I would think Dell would fix them.

According to their website i still have around 16 days left on the warranty. My only question is would the all of the problems be covered under the warranty, or would it be voided from the warranty and I would have to pay extra?
And if they can't fix it, does Dell extend credit from this laptop towards the purchase of a new Dell laptop? In other words, could I send the laptop back to Dell, have them issue credit for the laptop (even if it is less than $100) and put that money towards the purchase of a new laptop (say an E1501)?
Thanks,

As long as the issues not caused by misuse like dropping it, I would think Dell would cover it. I doubt they would give towards your next laptop.
