people let's list pros and cons of these SSDs, I think it will help some people (including me :))

    ok, I will go :)

intel 320 is SATA 2 and has 270/210 read/write speeds but 39k/23k random read/write IOPS
intel 510 is SATA 3 and has 500/310 read/write speeds but 20k/8k random read/write IOPS

some people on the web says that intel 320 beats pretty much everybody just because of random read/write speeds, is this true?? well, got me confused..

    the 510 is SATA3 (6Gb/s)
    the 310 is SATA2 (3Gb/s)

if this is for your M17 then it will take full advantage of the 510

    I have both (160GB 320 Series and 250GB 510 Series) models.

The SATA2 systems have the 320 Series, of course. The SATA3 systems have the 510 Series.

Both are partitioned with only 100GB used (rest is left as 'unallocated' for not only reducing WA, but to also help to keep the performance as high as possible regardless of the workload thrown at these drives).

I also have the M4 256GB model setup exactly/identically the same.

There is no doubt that the 510 Series SSD spanks both the others in my workloads.

Ignore the 'specs' (from marketing or from users benchmarks...) and if you can, try both these drives in your usage scenarios. I'm sure that you will find the same as I did.

Nothing currently beats the 250GB 510 Series Intel SSD.

I want to go with intel 520, but the release date is still not decided :( people are saying early 2012 though, however it may use a sandforce controller, so it kinda scares me :(

Not known when the release date is.

Not known what the controller is.

If you need the benefits of an SSD, buy now.

If not, you could be waiting a long time, not to mention waiting needlessly (possibly).

Don't be scared! Be bold! Make a decision and follow through. :)

I guess I will wait, samsung 470 is a very good one already anyway, I want something reliable at the same it will increase performance over 470, sandforce controllers are performing but not very reliable obviously, so I will wait intel 520
