I'm looking at upgrading to full ssd im looking at 240gb I 520 cherryville ssd or samsung830 256gb ssd prices are pretty close the intel read write is 80k/50k the samsung is 80k/30k may have to double check that. 6Gb/s and sata 3 on both. If I remember correctly I believe intel is 550mhz and samsung is 500mhz so these are quite similar ssd's. My question is which is better quality? Someone was saying there may be an issue with sandforce? one no of any other options as far as other brands around 240gb to 300gb or so without going crazy on price. I was able to find both of these for around $300 more or less

I considered the same choice when I finally decided on the Samsung. The new Cherryville seems to have BSOD issues like other Sandforce...not as bad, but still present. On the other hand, the Crucial M4 and Samsung 830 series are very stable. I personally like the Samsung. Put one in my HP Envy 17 3D and when I build a new desktop last week...put one in there as well. Solid, no BSODs, etc. Just fast and stable. My $.02

    ^^+1 on the Samsung

From what I've read, the Samsung is as reliable as they come. You can get the 256GB for $220 currently. Check the Tech Bargains section of the forum.

    Like the others said...
You shouldn't gamble with a Sandforce based drive (even if it is an Intel).
Get something with a Samsung or Marvell controller.
That means the Samsung 830, the Crucial M4 or the Plextor M2/3.

Out of curiosity, what is this? The clock speed of the controller?

If so, I don't think that makes a good metric to determine the speed of an SSD, as there are going to be other components in play as well (like layout / physical make up of SSD). Rather one should consider the actual read/write results of bench mark testing.

I'm pretty sure he meant MB/s. The Samsung has 520 MB/s, while the Intel has 550 MB/s

Another vote for the Samsung 830 here. I have 2 computers with the 256GB capacity and they are the best drives I have ever used. I considered the Intel 520 but to me I would choose reliability over a slight speed improvement.

Wow! That is quite a typo from "mhz" [sic] to "MB/s"
