So they finally filled all the blank spaces eh?

Good find!
Too bad they're not using a 20 channel controller (I was expecting a higher write speed).
Cheers! -
Hrm, looks like "Postville Refresh" is more like a Tick than a Tock. Disappointing as even Postville didn't bring anything performance-wise, but they seem to be wanting to lower prices to bring it to the mainstream.
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
IntelUser,
To be fair, Postville did eventually bring performance up a notch. Just not enough though, I'll agree. -
I think the primary focus for SSDs now should be cost reduction - until recently, I would not have been able to afford an SSD for my T500. Hope SSDs are mainstream by the time I get my next laptop
-
How much is it gonna cost? $1K? I think most of us will skip it... not worth the price...
-
-
lol that's even more than 1k... only a mad or super rich guy would buy that...
-
Then I guess I'm mad, because I'm certainly not super rich.
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
You bought one?
-
WANT.
I'd even sell my kidney for one of those.
Being able to go from HDD to SSD and not lose any capacity...I am agog. -
No. If I already had the Clevo that I'm saving up for, and I had the money to buy this, I think I would. It's pretty much the only laptop SSD that will fit all my games and other stuff (not !!!).
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Yeah, I'm with you then; "I must be mad", because if it is just money (and I have it to spend) then it means it's usually bought - no matter what 'it' is.
We're not going to enjoy it when we're gone, may as well enjoy it a little when we're here. -
So incredibly true.
-
Hey hey hey, that kind of thinking is out of fashion
Didn't you know that being stingy is in style these days because the sky is falling and the end of civilization as we know it is nigh?
Stupid recession.
Jokes aside, I'd want one if I didn't already have the 160GB version.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
just read someone bought this in tokyo at 70K JPY which is about US$ 755.
-
so if anyone want to sell the 80GB ones... I'm currently looking for a decent deal on one!
-
Never do that when considering the price of electronics -- you will quite likely get more accurate results if you convert at the 1:1 rate and sometimes it's even better than that. European electronics prices are high almost to the point of being unreasonable.

Hey! PM davepermen. He has more SSD's than systems for them, I hear.

Technology, especially in the hands of large companies, is a commodity.... i think intel would make far more money selling the 320 gig sd drive for $300 than selling it to a few customers at $1,100........
that's my wishful thinking for now. I've been going back and forth about buying an SSD drive but this last release has put the nail in the coffin for me........ there is no way i can give up my dual 500gb setup for the performance gain.... my dv7t is speedy enough for me right now..... i know there is always the debate about storage space vs. performance but the price is tooo high to make that a fair battle... -

^^^ LOL, i'd totally wait. for now, im going to take that $ i saved from not buying an ssd to buy me and my gf tickets to the bahamas for a week.
but wait - selling 100,000 drives @ $1,000 a piece would make them less $ than selling 1,000,000 drives at $500 a piece, no? A company as large as them, not only would that give them more footing in the growing ssd arena, they'd corner the market and competition wouldnt be able to match their offerings - price-wise or performance-wise.....
wait - that's what M$ did right?... isn't that illegal? LOL. legal, illegal.... it's such a fine line sometimes... hahahahahahaha -

this is why you're not running an Intel product division.
Yes, 5 times the money, but 10 times the hard costs = less profit.

making an awesome product for less than your competitors isn't illegal, if you play dirty and create exclusivity deals that's were it gets hairy.timesquaredesi said: ↑^^^ LOL, i'd totally wait. for now, im going to take that $ i saved from not buying an ssd to buy me and my gf tickets to the bahamas for a week.

if this follows standard intel practice it will be about 1000$ for 4 months or so, then they will give it a 100$ discount for a month or so, then they will cut the price in half in prep for the 640GB ones. -
Monopolizing the market is illegal AFAIK. It is not fair to sell a lot lower, losing money, just to take the entire market. Last time I checked there were laws against that.yuio said: ↑making an awesome product for less than your competitors isn't illegal, if you play dirty and create exclusivity deals that's were it gets hairy.

The post you quoted doesn't have anything to due with monopolizing the market; undercutting competitors is an everyday part of the business world. It's called competition (one form of it, at least). Lower prices are used to gain market share. Some companies can charge more than others and some have to charge less depending on their reputation and position in the market.Serg said: ↑Monopolizing the market is illegal AFAIK. Before I go on a rant, let's continue with the topic of SSDs. -
I still hope they release these at the 600$ point and lower the price on the 80GB and 160GB ones, I could definately use another SSD, my i7 desktop is lonely, and tired of noise hot harddisks as the boot drive.
undercuting competition is perfectly legal, Sony(PS3), Microsoft(Xbox/360), Apple(in its early days), almost every company will do this to gain an advantage. people run on the illusion that companies want to beat there opponents, but in truth they want to wipe them out. -
I would love this on my laptop...but price tag of 1K? Ouch...almost a new laptop with similar specs to mine...cant handle that.
So, how long for SSDs to be "for the masses", when can we expect them to standardize? This thing has me drooling... -

you're doin' it wrong. paying again that money would bring you the same you have already => no gain. paying it for an ssd would make your laptop much better => big gain. doesn't mean you have to spend the money, but the old rule still applies: more money => more power.Serg said: ↑I would love this on my laptop...but price tag of 1K? well, as smaller sizes are from >100$ to 250$ or so, they are a worthy upgrade for a lot of people by now. this 320gb one isn't worth it at 1000$, yes. but others are definitely worth the cost. So, how long for SSDs to be "for the masses", when can we expect them to standardize? the non 320gb versions? like i said..
i have now two 80gb intel ones, one 160gb one, and by tomorrow, a 40gb one. so far everyone gave my systems that "never have to get a new system anymore" feel which is awesome.
then again, i still get an i5 by tomorrow, but that has other reasons
i prefer to spend much less on hw and put more into ssds, as it's more worth the experience than any fast cpu, or lots of ram, or what ever.
but i moved over to networked storage for all the places i am in => i don't need the 320gb one ever anyways. -

Such as the G2 160GB Intel SSD.
Or, the G2 80GB model.
Or, the G2 40GB model for $130.
Cheers! -

LOL, considering I bought the X25-M G1 80GB for $700 before tax, that isn't that bad for me, haha. it'll be for a desktop. i hope to be able to have it 100% passive cooled, and hidden in a drawer
(i know, I'm .. strange .. with computers.. but i like them everywhere but not noticeable.)
and it should dance around my q6600, especially for my purpose (ableton live, which renders tracks single threaded on export.. takes ages)
