Have you tried restoring the iPod using iTunes?

Have you tried resetting the ipod?
Look here
EDIT: Which iPod are you talking about? -
ipod video 5 gen i think..i really dont care to fix it i jus wanna find a way to take out the hard drve and use it by itself
-
you did not get apple care with your ipod!?!
-
I never get Apple Care with my ipods, mainly because I know how to fix the problems and take good care of my ipod-babies
-
I constantly re-charge my ipod everyday when i put it into my ipod fm tuner in the car. I go though those recharging cycles extremely quickly. My battery holds a little more than 50% of a charge and once it gets below 50%, Apple will replace my battery. At this rate, I'll be able to replace my ipod battery twice and still have it covered if the ipod stops working.

even if it was $20 dollars for that kit, if you buy that twice, =$40 compared to $50, you still don't have a warranty insuring the ipod for 2 year. Hard drives and screen are notorious for breaking on ipods.

Mebbe this will help?

Guys, I have a feeling the OP doesn't want to fix his iPod. He merely wants to take out the hard drive which I think is impossible to do unless you crack open the iPod casing.

I think you have to get a new MP3 player! A ZUNE!!!!!!!!!!!
