So i have only 120gb left and i havent installed my music and other games which would leave me with -50gb so a 750 will be sufficient but idk for how long. Is 750 really the biggest hdd for my acer in the odd? and ane1 have any news about 1tb for 9.5??

    9.5mm is max for 750gb.
Samsung supposed to be coming out with 1TB at 9.5mm spec.

1TB is available for 12.5mm. But you knew that.

As stated, yes, currently 750GB is max. I can't remember at the moment if your model has a DVD drive, but if it does, you can swap that out for another 750GB HDD. Alternatively, how would you feel about carrying a portable 1TB HDD?

yea i have the 640gb on the odd and i cant put my music in it :( to little space. I just like to carry my comp to school and during a break ill watch a movie/show, and since the battery life is awesome on this comp i dont need to bring my adapter or anything. 750gb would be good id get another 50gb space of wiggle room without all my games but would have my movies/music. I was wondering cause i wanna upgrade ram if i sell my current ram and i have to rma how would tat work out if i have 8gb? and if i sell my 640gb for lets say a 750 and again have to rma? or do i ahve to keep all my original stuff?

Not sure exactly what you're saying... why do you want to upgrade your memory? And RMA is usually for defective or broken items, it's not going to get your money back, but it will be an exchange for the same item you have. If you want to make money, you need to sell your parts on a place like eBay. IMO it's not worth the effort for such little benefit.

    my translation...

he wants a huge HDD because he doesn't have to carry a power brick/etc and doesn't want to carry anything else

I also wants to upgrade his ram, but is worried about if it breaks and would the man. still honer the warranty

1: you don't "need" that much storage on a notebook, get a smaller/faster drive and put the music you like on it, and keep a huge external at home/in your car

2: you'll have to check with the man. of your laptop on the ram/warranty issue

The only announced 1 TB 9.5 mm 2.5" drive is a Samsung 5400 RPM drive... and it's not out yet.

Technically you're wrong. Most laptops don't have room for a 12.5mm HDD. All those are 12.5mm. For instance, most macbookpros can fit 12.5mm HDD, however my lappy can't, so I have to wait patiently for the 9.5mm Samsung which I KNOW FOR SURE will fit.

Yes, which is why I always type out 9.5 mm in my posts. It could be worse; the x220 only accepts 7 mm drives...

Oh, and by the way, there's a 2.5" 1.5 TB drive... but that seems to be 15 mm.

they will accept them, you just have to leave the hard drive bracket that comes in the laptop, off. let the panel hold it in place.. simple kids. Ive dealt with this thing before.

    1 platter drives = 7.2mm 2 platter drives =9.5mm 3 platter drive = 12.7mm 4 platter = 15mm

Samsung has just developed a 500GB capacity on 1platter this is what is revolutionizing capacities the new max's will be

    1 platter 7.2mm-500GB
    2 platter 9.5mm-1TB
    3 platter 12.7mm-1.5TB
    4 platter 15mm-2TB

the 3 and 4 platter drives are significant mainly for portable 2.5" enclosures that run off USB power only though there are a few laptops that can support 12.7mm internally though I don't know of any that will support the 4 platter ones those are strictly for portable 2.5" enclosures that run off USB power only.

Except that not all notebooks have a hard drive bracket... my (older) Gateway NX860XL does not, for example, and won't take a 12.7 mm drive (well, I suppose I could put one in, if I left the panel off and used duct tape or something... but then I would fully expect to lose the drive in a few weeks from the lack of protection).

I thought 12.5mm would fit in the DVD drive though.

That might actually work. Most ODD are larger than HDD. For example, I believe the m17x r2 only has 9.5mm hard drive bays, but the optical can fit a 12.5mm

You have to check the model of the ODD. Some ODDs are 9.5mm high, others are 12.7mm high...

I run a 12.5mm 1TB drive inside an ultrabay caddy via the DVD slot in a Lenovo W700 and another one in the secondary hard drive slot(W700 has room for two internal drives + DVD slot via ultrabay caddy). Tight fit for the secondary slot and almost tight for the ultrabay, but both -are- doable. Been running this way for many months with no issues.

    Guess it's a your-mileage-may vary kinda thing.
