I'm looking to upgrade my system to the new socket and skylake processors available. However, my processor seems to have a faster clock speed than any of the new processors. Are any of them worth upgrading to?

The 6700k is faster, the intructions complete per clock are higher so even though the clockspeed is lower it wins. And extreme series cpus can overclock to 4.1-4.5GHz usually and have more cores, making them much much faster. (Like the 6800k, 6900k, 5820k etc...)

Intel ARK says the 4790k boosts to 4.4Ghz (I've overclocked to 4.6Ghz) The 6700k boosts to 4.2Ghz

Raw clock speed isn't everything, as Galm17 noted in the first sentence of his post.TBoneSan likes this. -
Download http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/cinebench-15-download.html and compare your score with my laptop and i7-6700K. Use your overclock settings on processor.

Then you can see the difference and what you should expect!!Last edited: Oct 31, 2016 -
The improvement is like 10% so not worth getting something new over that.. The 4790K usually does 4.5Ghz easily and trust me that's going to be plenty for a few more years..

I have both 4790K and 6700K.. Both great chips.. 6700K is a little faster but nothing you can really notice.. it's a wash imo between the two CPUs.
is any of the new skylake processors better than the Devils canyon 4790k ?
