I ordered a 1420 with 2gb of RAM (2x1) i want to buy a 2gb stick to have 3gb of RAM I was wondering and I better off having dual channel 2gb RAM of will 3gb be alot faster? Also do they memory sticks have to be the same brand?

No it's not. More ram will 99% of the time be better. DC will show benefits when dealing with very memory intensive applications, but even then it's only about 3-5% difference.

Also, today's chipsets can run in dual channel even with mismatched pairs. It's called asynchronous (sp?) dual channel, which is not as good as synchronous (sp?) dual channel, but it's still DC none the less.

Huh? I said it can be dual channel even with a 2gb + 1gb stick. And no, it doesn't matter what brand it is, makes no difference. As long as they are the same speed then it's ok.
