    im thinking of getting dell xps m1530 with core 2 duo 1.5 ghz since thats the cheapest, but 1.5 is not enough. so i was wondering if i'm able to upgrade it by myself.

    Yes, its complicated tho. it probably would cost you more too to get a boxed processor.

    Upgrading the CPU will void your warranty so...

    Look at dell's support site(support.dell.com) for a service guide on how to upgrade the processor.

    Also if you are planning on gaming, the GPU will probably play a bigger role then the CPU(though more games are getting both CPU and GPU intensive).

    in the pentium M era machines dell laptops used a different cpu than what you could get in a boxed cpu

    it had either an extra pin or a missing pin. the only way to upgrade it was through dell.

    I havent heard of this at all with the core duos and up but I would look into it.
