ive been totally baffled by this. my external hard drive's USB connector broke and i was wondering if i could remove the hard drive component and use it as an additional internal hard drive in my computer. if there are any other suggestions on how to safely transport my data out of there, please let me know.

I'm not sure if you can go from external to internal. Usually, you go from internal to external. Can you get another USB connector? I would check with the manufacturer of your external HDD and see if they have extra connectors.

depends on the notebook and the hd. a few notebooks have an extra bay where you can install a second hard drive, but they are usually large 17" notebooks. also, your hd would have to be the same type (e.g. sata, pata) as what your notebook uses. since i doubt your notebook meets both conditions, i would say that you cannot put your external hd inside your notebook. why don't you just buy a new usb cord?

If you laptop's BIOS can be set the bootup sequence from USB drive, you are possible to use an external one as an internal one. BUT internal(PATA) transfer rate is still faster than USB, that's not worth. You shouldtake it out from the external box then put it to your laptop, just do a regular way.

make sure you get the right sized enclosure (e.g. 2.5", 3.5"). good luck!
