I got my hands on a T5550. It works fine but has two lines on the top of the die. One is horizontal an crosses the die from one side to the other. and the other one is vertical and goes from one side and stops when it intersect with the other line.

I've never seen something similar before. Are those cracks? is it safe to carry on using this CPU?

Use a screw driver with a microfiber cloth cushioning the screw driver head, and press gently against the IHS. If it's cracked it will obviously show the division on the horizontal scratch or crack.
If it does not show a division, should be fine to use.

If it's working right now, I wouldn't worry too much about it causing problems.

From the photos it doesn't look that bad to me.

That chip seems to be scratched...
I dont think anything bad is going to happen.
You are probably going to get a temp increase at most.

Yup, as others have said it will be perfectly fine. That is very minor scratching. In fact, in my collection I have processors with chips on the top, sides, and/or corners that still function 100%.
