is pc5300 ram vs 6400 a big deal with a 800 mhz fsb proc?

im looking to buy a gateway p-6831fx and i want to upgrade the proc from T5450 to T9300. only issue is that fsb increases to 800 mhz which might be inefficient with 667 mhx ram. unfortunately, the os is 32-bit so i wouldn't gain much more by putting in a 4 gb ddr2 6400 kit. should i go with the ram upgrade (another $90) with my proc upgrade or would i still be fine for gaming if i kept the ram as is?

if you have 2gb RAM I don't know that you would see much of a performance increase going to 4gb = 3 or 3.5...I imagine with a faster processor you'd be better off in that sector...plus you can always upgrade your RAM. I just dropped a 4GB kit in my laptop for $60, net that with the 30-40 I can get from my 2x1GB sticks and I upgraded my ram for $20-30. I'd go with the processor if you have to choose.

Also, I think the FSB on my lappy is 800MHz, but I don't know that my RAM is supported up to that speed (could be wrong :\ )

There are no Intel mobile chipsets available right now that support 800MHz memory. That means the Gateway won't support 800MHz memory. You're gonna be stuck at 667MHz regardless of the T5450 or T9300.

Agreed. I put 4 gigs of DDR2 6400 into my p-6831fx to verify there would be no difference and benchmarks remained the same. I put a T9300 in as well which however did make a nice difference in 3dsmark scores and windows performance indexes.
