Theoretically you should be able to upgrade to a non Socket P(i.e non Santa Rosa) Core 2 Duo. But it depends on whether the BIOS supports the CD or C2D or if the cpu is soldered onto the motherboard.

What I said above applies for the Pentium Dual core as well since it is just a cut down Core Duo.

no you probably can not .... 99% of the pentium dual core cpu's are sold on the "gml" motherboard.. the gml boards are based on the 533mhz fsb.. they are not capable of anything higher than that, so you 99% will be stuck with a 533fsb cpu. the core 2 duo's right now are 667 and the newest santa rosa versions are 800mhz fsb.. ill post up the upgrade chart i have for you in a sec here..

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=2808

i cant post the pic it doesnt want to let me.. ill try again though

basically intel and computer companies are using the 940gml chipset for the pentium dual core cpu's. there are 4 chipsets in this family, the 940gml, the 945gm, the 945gms, and the 945pm. all EXCEPT THE 940GML CAN SUPPORT CORE 2 DUO. and they can only support up to THE 667MHZ FRONT SIDE BUS NOT THE 800MHZ ONE!!! so the gm, gms, and pm can be upgraded to a 667fsb based cpu.

AFTER SPEAKING WITH INTEL, HP, TOSHIBA, LENOVO AMONG MANY OTHERS when the PENTIUM DUAL CORE IS USED you can not upgrade any higher than 533 fsb due to the 940gml chipset being used. so IF YOU DO BUY A T2060,T2080 ETC ANYTHING PENTIUM DUAL CORE make 150% YOUE ARE NOT GETTING THE 940GML BASED BOARD or you are locked into the 533 fsb.. hope this helps

yes the vostro's that use a "t" series cpu are santa rose. you can easily tell if the front side bus is 800mhz they are santa rosa. 667 and prior are not santa rosa

Hmm...didnt know they had a new chipset. But looking around intels website, the only gml chipset(940gml) they only list the Celeron M as being supported. The 940 series only supported the Celeron M's and from what I can remember these never did support any dual core cpu.

Yes it should, but it would be a good idea to buy with the processor you want since upgrading is not going to be easy especially if you havent done such a thing before.

One thought on this, there is another thread with similar talk about upgrading cpu's etc and the Intel 94xGML chipset.

    From Intel's website re: 943GML:
    Supported chips:
    Intel® Celeron® M processor,
Intel® Celeron® M processor Ultra Low Voltage (ULV)

So it makes me wonder why they're using it for the Pent. Dual Core's but hey whatever right?

Here's my question, does anybody think you could upgrade the T2080 with a T5300 Core 2 Duo? This is a 533mhz FSB chip, should be the same socket, but it's got 2mb L2 cache which is really what I'd like to bump up to.

Actually the T5250 and T5450 are Santa Rosa cpus and have a 667MHz FSB. The T5470 I believe has 800MHz FSB.
