im buying an 1520 from dell and im wondering if the upgrade from 2.0ghz to 2.2 ghz is worth the extra 100 dollars

my spec is 160 gb 7200 RPM
    256mb geforce 8600M GT

im planning to game a lot but i read a lot that the .2 ghz is not worth the 100 dollars and that there is a very minimal performance increase?

If you ask me, no. The .2 ghz increase isn't worth the 100 dollars unless you want to do heavy photo shop, rendering, and calculating. But other than that, for games or multitasking the 2.00 GHZ is definitely enough.

just overclock it to 2.2? Sure it'll be very stable still, but you probably won't know much difference with 200Mhz :)

    Definately not worth spending...just overclock

Overclocking is a VERY BAD IDEA. 200mhz definitely won't be noticeable if you don't do heavy rendering, encoding, etc.

on the other hand: it's only $100
not that much compared to an overall price off ... what? $1300?
i'd take it ... but i think it's a personal opinion ... i ordered the T7700 ... maybe you won't notice it now, but you might notice it later, when apps/games are more demanding (also depends on how much you plan on upgrading/changing your notebook of course :) )

if your playing MMO's maybe. my notebook CPU is always at 100% when playing 2 accounts of EVE Online at the same time and I do get a little system lag that I don't get with my desktop w/ 3 accounts open at once. other than that, no its not worth it.

If there was a 2mb cache difference in the L2, yes, get it. But in this case no. Spend it on some ram or a better screen.

Overclocking 10% is not even going to increase your heat output by 10%... Only raising the voltages is dangerous.

wow thanks for the responses guys!

    2.0ghz to 2.2ghz = 100 dollars
    2gb ram to 3gb of RAM(2gbx1gb stick) = 125

should i do the RAM deal though? i think i am

it says recommended for windows vista is about 1gb so ill dedicate 1 gb to vista and 2gb for everything else to run?

If you are going for more ram get the least possible then buy some from crucial, check it out, it's likely cheaper. Vista runs perfectly with 2gb of ram for me in my 3ghz core 2 + 8800GTS machine so it will be fine for you, it does not use 1gb for itself, 1GB is recomended BECAUSE it leaves a chunk for everything else to run.

so you think 3gb is too much? im really not fond of upgrading stuff by myself so i'd rather just buy it like that you know? so if im not gonna upgrade RAM by myself should i just go for the 3gb?

You know you could just put the extra money in the bank, and start saving up for your next laptop :D
