    I have an celeron-m 1.6 420 533mhz

the temperature goes from 54c to 65c and then the fan cuts in and it back to 54c again over and over again.

I am using notebook hardware control to get the temprature.

    thanks.

    John.

That looks like a normal temperature range. Fan operation is normally driven by a table in the BIOS. I presume that those numbers are on idle and the upper temperature increases under load. How does the computer's temperature feel?

    Hi.

    these numbers are on idle.

when it`s loaded the fan just comes on more frequent, the computer feels fine though.

    thanks.

Everything looks fine. Temperatures under load could get 10+ degrees higher depending on the ability of the cooling system to disperse the heat. Also, temperatures can be measured at different places by different software and give results that a few degrees different. There's an ACPI temperature and, for newer CPUs, a sensor within the die.The Intel Thermal Analysis Tool can tell you more.

Yep as John said those temps are ok. My Core Duo idles at 55 and the fan starts at 60. Never seen the the temp go beyond 64 but the chip can handle about 90 without damage.

I have a Pentium M 1.86GHz w/ 533MHz bus, its temperature range is very similar. It idles around ~50*C, and at 59*C the fan kicks on high.

I have tried the "Intel Thermal Analysis Tool" before it causes my notebook to blue screen and instantly reboot.

I dont think it likes my Via chipset.

    thanks.

    I am upgrading to an CoreDuo 1.6 T2050 at 31Watts opposed to the Celeron-M 1.6 420 at 27Watts.

It should be interesting to see the temperature difference, if it work at all?.

    thanks.

    John.

My 1.3G celeron was exactly the same. 53c idle, underload it went up to 60c and fan came on. My pentium M with NHC, idles around 45c and after a fashion under load it will hit 60c and the fan comes on.

Let's hope it works. If your T2050 undervolts like most of its family then you could actually see a cooler computer with less fan activity, at least when it is under load.
