Hi guys, im just wondering is a laptop with core 2 duo 2.13 ghz a good processor for high end graphic games such as F.E.A.R, COD, MOH est...will it be fast enough? laptop also includes 4 gig ram and ATI mobility HD 4650 1 gig of graphics.

    Thanks!

Yes, the laptop is more than enough to play the games at high settings, you can even use AA and AF if you like. Of course I am talking for medium range laptop with medium resolution. If the laptop is 17" and Full HD screen then the graphic card is not powerfull enough to play the games in native resolution. You might need higher clocked processor for strategic games like World in Conflict etc, but still the processor is more than fine for most of the games. After all, for the games the most important factor is the GPU and the 4650 is very good for mid-range laptops.

Could you specify which laptop, specifically, and what resolution the screen is? I have an 8600 and a 1920x1200 screen. (that didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped) I'd imagine that if I had a 1280x800 screen I could have played those games at high/medium-high. Then again, you're card is slightly better in power, and newer by two generations.

    P8600 is powerful enough for 1920*1200. It's the Nvidia 8600 that's lacking.

PS. The ATI4650 is more than twice as powerful in 3Mark06.

yes it will be just fine. Get a better GPU if you want better games.

Heh. That's alright; I was just about to correct you myself.

Anyway. The processor itself is fine, regarding the thread title, but I think he's asking about the laptop as a whole. That's why I said something about the graphics card.

Shouldn't be a problem. Crysis isn't CPU bound to my knowledge.

thanks sgogeta4, games aren't really CPU bound are they? games normally uses up to 45%-50% of the processor? is this correct? i read this on a website once, but wasn't quite sure.

Including those situations when games are CPU bound, will the core 2 duo 2.13ghz be enough power? or will it lack?

2.13 should be plenty to be honest, i play on 2ghz all the time, im not sure what games are multithread and what aren't but i know i've played single thread games and its run fine!

Maybe because of the GPU being quite powerfull but i have also played on a 1.83ghz machine with a low GPU and that plays games nicely :D

I'm talking from a T5750 and a nVidia GeForce 9500m GS and I can say Crysia plays quite well on medium settings. I'm pretty sure my lower end processor isn't limiting gaming since I ran task manager in the bakground and it rarely peaks the CPU.

what resolution are you playing at fred2028? so medium settings runs fine with out lag on your system ?

Btw, the laptop i am looking at purchasing has a ATI HD 4650 1 GIG OF GRAPHICS (pretty sure this isnt dedicated), just wondering am i better of purchasing a laptop with 512 mb dedicated or will the 1 gig of graphics be fine to handle high end graphic games with out lag? which is better?
