ok i think tomorrow I will order the DV2000T but i cant decide whether to get the 5400rpm or the 7200rpm thru 3rd party. HP wants 100dollars for the 100GB 5400rpm and the 7200rpm 100gb thru like buy.com etc is 180 or so, so im trying to decide if the 80 dollars is really worth it, my computer uses consist of using photosohp, illustrator, indesign, little gameplay, occassional cs, sims 2 etc, but nothing like doom 3 or anything will i really notice a difference between the 2 hdd speeds with this kind of use?

7,200rpm and 5,400rpm is a big differnce. if you are that desperate for fast performance, then $80 bucks is worth it. 7,200rpm just allows files to be read and transfered faster in the HDD.

ok i think for my needs a 5400rpm HDD would be fine as i dont game and most intense stuff i do is photoshop/illustrator etc. I plan on buying the HP notebook and there 100GB HDD is 100 dollars but i would just leave it at the default 40gb and buy a HITACHI Travelstar 5K100 100gb from newegg for 104.99 shipped so 5 dollars more but this would guarantee a high end faster 5400rpm as to where if i bought the hp one i could get like 3-4 different brands and from what i hear fujutsi is the one you'd want to avoid is this good idea you think? :p

Just remember that if you do this you will most likely void your warranty, so for 5 dollars, i dont think its worth voiding ur warranty

switching out HDD from what i hear doesnt and if i ever needed repair you would just slip in the stock 40gb hdd and send it back to them and they'd never know.

upgrading your HD will not void your warranty.

getting the aftermarket HD is the waaaaaaay better buy because you are getting 140 GBs for 105 instead of 100 GBs for 100.

you know, i really question the value of those 'mediaplay' type functions on my computer. i'm perfectly content to boot up my computer and watch a dvd on fullscreen in wmp or vlc or whatever. i'm not sure i'd be missing much if i had that feature, except for HD space which, for me personally, is much more important the convenience of not having to boot my computer (i also thought i read somewhere on this forum there isn't much of a battery life difference, but i could be wrong).
