Hi guys,
I just purchased an Dell Latitude e6520, and I'm considering to replace the HDD with a SSD.
It'll be my first jump into the SSD, so I would like to ask a few questions to confirm my understanding from doing some research.
1. It looks like for a general user, the speed difference between SATAII and SATAIII is negligible. Is that true?
2. Although Samsung 470 is only SATAII compared to the SATAIII of Intel 510 and Crucial M4, it looks like the speed is very comparable accrdoing to this review of Crucial M4. I do know that Benchmarking result is different from the real-life use, but what is your general opinion on this?
3. I generally use my computer for "general" stuffs like article research, writing, some web programming, some heavy duty gaming, and a little photoshopping, and it looked like for my use, Samsung 470 would suffice. Do you agree?
4. I'm thinking of getting 128gb ssd since I'll be rarely on the move, and I'll have eGPU and external hard drives in my work desk. Currently Newegg is selling 470 128gb for 199.99. Is this a good price? Or has there been better price before? I know the new version of Samsung SSD is coming out on Oct, so the price will probably drop soon, but if the current price is not bad, I might still jump on it.
I'll appreciate any opinion!
Thank you.

$200 is an amazing price for just a credible drive.
The manufacturing of the M4 didn't cause any real harm to the C300. Samsung might want to keep the 470 around to occupy that "lower" price point with something. Like Intel is doing with the 320 and the 510. -
Sounds like a good deal.
Currently thinking about getting a Samsung SSD 470 64gb for my Atom Minecraft server too since i dont have enought ram to host the map in a ramdisk.
Here in Norway the Samsung SSD is a little bit more expensive than the Intel 320 40gb. -
1. If you do a lot of "sequential" reads and writes, you should be able to see a difference, but for most folks, the most important number to look for is the 4k (random) read speed/IOPS and access time.
3. Well - that depends on what you define as "sufficient". For most, it is.
4. If you know the new Samsung SATAIII/6gbps drives are coming out soon, can you hold out another month and a half? If there is a price drop, I wouldn't expect it to be drastic. Regardless, you can have an SSD today, for a little more (assuming there is a price drop), or you can wait a month and a half (or more) and save, say, $20. It's up to you. As the saying goes, "you can buy now, or always be playing the waiting game".For all we know, the new Samsung SSD's may only be $30 more than the current flavor - who knows (or at least I haven't seen anything regarding price as of this morning).

I bought a 128GB through NewEgg a while ago and have had it in my Thinkpad x120e and x220. It's been very reliable and very fast so far, no complaints.

it looks like Samsung 470 is best bang for the bucks (for now)
