Ok, so my Inspiron 1300 back-light went out several weeks ago.
I'll go to London in about 2 weeks and try to repair it there for a reasonable/cheap price.

If you can offer some suggestions as to the shops where I could take it for repairs where they won't overcharge me, I'd very much appreciate it.
The diagnostic is not necessary as I already know the problem.

One other question ... would it be possible to fix the said screen so it features a LED back-light instead of the previous regular back-light?
Taking into consideration I AM talking about the Inspiron 1300 laptop which is still in pretty good shape (1.6 GhZ Intel Celeron M - oc'd to 2.1 GhZ), 2 GB of RAM, 160 GB hdd (5400 rpm), etc ... would it be possible to install a LED back-light and that it works?

Try to check with Dell. How much do they charge? I'm not too confident an OEM repairshop can do the deed for you. This isn't RAM or some simple upgrade, its a LED backlight.

Lol ... taking it to DELL is not exactly a viable solution (as I think they would overcharge me).
I bought this laptop over 2 years ago while I was in London and the warranty expired about a year or so ago.

The Dell extension branch here in Zagreb offered to replace the entire screen (not just the back-light) for $200 without taxes (which are 22% here).
All I need is to replace the backlight without the shop in question overcharging for such a relatively minor fix or replacing the ENTIRE screen (when it's not needed).

But I would also like to know if it would be possible to fit a LED back-light inside that screen given it's better efficiency, power consumption/eco-friendliness/etc.

I will fire off an e-mail to DELL though to see if fitting a LED back-light is possible and also ask out of curiosity just how much would they charge me for back-light repairs.
But I know they like to overprice these things.

very easy to replace the screen. look up smartmicrousa.com they ship all over the globe and are great to deal with you will have a hard time to find someone to replace just the bulb on some screens you cant just replace the bulb.
