I found a good deal on a 250GB WD laptop drive that I decided to buy and replace in my new Vostro 1500 (regret not getting the cheaper drive @ Dell).

Now that I have my OS and HDD all configured the way I want, is there an adapter out there that will let me connect my new drive via USB port to copy my partitions over to the new drive? I have both Drive Image and Acronis True Image. I have an external USB HDD, but would rather skip the step of copying to one drive, installing the new HDD, then copying back.

edit: I guess another question would be, is a 2.5" SATA drive connector same as a 3.5" SATA connector?

    Thanks.

No - SATA & PATA connections for laptops and desktops are totally different.

I'm in the same boat as you and purchased one of these:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817348021

..it contains both a 2.5" form factor pata & sata connectors at either end. Good buy in my opinion (for data transfers) :)
