ok the problem is overheating. ive tried cleaning the fan with canned air, placing it on a hard surface, greasing the cpu, but still the problem comes back.

anyone got any ideas how i can fix this issue. also whats the best surface to put it on. and what about putting it on a grill like stand?

    What laptop is this?
Have you tried undervolting the processor and running a fan control software?

Any kind of means of propping up the laptop will help aid in reducing running temperature. A grill like stand would be fine as long as your laptop can be placed on it so that it doesn't rock back and forth.

What would changing the AGP speeds do?
Changing the speed of the AGP shouldnt effect heat production, it should only decrease gaming performance.
Have you installed any temperature monitoring software?
Sorry I do not remember every detail about your system

If it is overheating, the best thing to do is build a laptop cooler for it.
Prop the back of your system up like 2" and buy 1 or 2 12Volt fans. Than use a 12V power supply and power them. Place them accordingly to your fan vents and your system should run properly

A USB fan would help, you just need to position it over the fan vents.

I am curious as to why your machine gets so hot, the ATi 9600 is not a very power hungry card. This has the pentium M in it right?

Have you checked to see taskmanager when you are running your games.
You should try to keep windows down to around 30 processes, so that all of your cpu power can go to the game rather than other unnecessary programs.

Worse comes to worse you can fix the fans by forcing them to always run at full speed. That would fix your overheating problem. Unfortunately the only way to do this is to short your fan controller, so that it always runs at full speed.

Well if your fans are already on than I dont think forcing them to full will do much more for you.

Once you do it you unfortunately cannot go back. But if you want to. Simply locate the fan contollers on your motherboard. You would need to know what to look for. Once found short both ends or solder a wire connecting both ends, thus overriding the controller forcing the fans to always run at 100%. This means the fans run and start up the second the ac power cable is plugged in.

is there anyway to increase the cpu temp that it cuts out at or turn off the automatic shutdown of the pc when it reaches this temp.

my cpu sensor is broken so i dont know how hot.
