    hello!

i recently bought a dell lattitude c640. it has a 10 gig hard drive in it, which isn't nearly enough for me. i do not know very much at all about laptops or computers in general. i've been looking around online and found this hard drive

would this work for my laptop? is installation easy enough to do it myself? ( i've never opened up a computer before )

    thanks!

You can use any ATA 2.5" drive. Might not recognize larger ones, but 30GB'll be fine.

I don't know off the top of my head where the drive on the C6x0 series is located, but you can go to Dell's support site and they'll have service manuals for all of their laptops. That'll tell you how to take the drive out. And yes, it's a very straightforward process.

The harddrive on the C640 is located on the left side, next to the speaker. You have to remove one screw, and then pull the side piece of plastic up a little, and then you can remove the harddrive.

If not, any ATA6 laptop harddrive will work. That harddrive you selected is very expensive for its size and speed.

For the same price you are better off getting this:

i have another quick question... i don't know anything about USB ports. I only have one on this laptop, but i need at least two. is there some sort of thing that enables two usb devices to be put into one slot?

You can buy a USB hub. They're real cheap these days and they usually have at least 4 ports on a single hub. Just go to Newegg or your local computer store; these things are pretty abundant.

You can transfer any caddy or other adaptor from the old HDD to the new one. You will see th differences when you put the two HDDs side-by-side.
