yo everybody. i bought a new asus m50vc laptop. everything about is fine. now the only problemn is that the harddisk is always on. it means that that i can hear the harddisk consantly spinning. i checked the fan. well no sound of the fan as the laptop is quite cold. the harddisk is totally opposite side of the laptop from where the fan is. so we can rule out the fan to be spinning. so guys is it normal for the harddisk to spin and produce some noise.?(except for the normal ticking sound). thank you all..

What kind of hard drive do you have? 5400RPM or 7200? Does your BIOS support HDD Acoustic Mode? If so, you might want to enable it. It'll cost you a bit of performance, but keeps things much quieter.

If you have a 7200RPM drive, it's not uncommon to hear the drive. On my T500, the Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM drive is louder than the fan (by quite a margin, actually).

Well that is a very strong HDD that you have there so I don't think it should be a surprise that it makes a sound.
