    Laptop memory upgrade

    Just wondering... I recently upgraded my HP laptop with more memory, with the help of a grad student working at my college's bookstore. I did the upgrade myself. He told me I didn't have to remove the battery, but, looking at all the memory upgrades online, I chose to remove it anyway.

    It was the right choice to remove the battery first, wasn't it?

    You should always remove all power source except the one hardwired to keep the internal clock accurate. So battery & power outlet should be removed.

    Yes, it was a good choice and anyone who say different is a fool (nicer than the "I" word) If you ever do it again discharge yourself also by touching something grounded (static electricity).

    yep thats right, and you should push the power button for a short time, just to make sure there is no power left within the circuits...
