    GPU problem.
Check your temperatures, if the GPU temps are fine, the whole laptop does not get too hot, and the GPU uses its own RAM, then it's possible that you need a new laptop soon.
    What GPU do you have?

Definately a GPU-problem, seems to be overheating. If it is a nvidia 8-series, then i think it'll probably die out soon. As they have a common overheating problem where the solder around the GPU gets loose.

If this only happens when you play graphics-intensive games ... or when you play games, then it is almost always a video card problem. I am guessing yours is a discrete one. There are unorthodox solutions on how to replace notebook gpus, but I can't really recommend them to you (as I don't plan on doing them myself).

70-74 is good, if it's fulload. If you're not doing anything to utilizing it, it's bad (idle temps i mean)..

The GPU doesn't have to get very hot at all in order to die for the 8 series. This is not an overheating issue per say, but one more related to heat cycles. Does your laptop go to sleep/hybernate/turn-off a lot? While it may not seem like much your going from 20 degrees to ~60-80 degrees for most laptops in idle and normal use. Doing that 10 times a day for a year or two on a product that is known to be faultly gives good odds of killing the product.

Anyways, your 8600GT is TOAST. It will only get worse from here and will not get better. If you have any type of warantee on it you can try and get it replaced/get money for a new laptop from them, otherwise you'll have to buy a new laptop yourself, some laptops can have the cards replaced (But they still cost around $300 or more to do it yourself), someone else will have to help you there.

Also, don't feel bad. Tons of 8-series owners are counting their days till the same thing happens to them. I wonder how long before mine goes.
