hi
when i turn my freevents philips x57 laptop i just get a white screen then it dims darker and i cant see anything.
brightness controls on the keyboard work.
when i connect the laptop to my plasma tv i dont get a white screen and it comes on my plasma.
on the plasma though its crazy. theres different colour lines flashing everywhere and individual letters on the text change different colours like a nightclub. its like 8 bit graphics disco game. doesnt even boot into windows, just see the statup and loading screen.
so if the graphics are acting all crazy on my external display (plasma), does that say that the gpu/motherboard is faulty?
or is it the inverter, lcd cable or my laptop screen is faulty?
thanks,

Very very likely that it's your GPU.

Could be the laptop screen. Try connecting the laptop to a desktop PC monitor. Does that work?

i connected it to the plasma as explained above. i belive if i connect it to a computer monitor i will get the same result.
gpu is gefore go 7400 dedicated.
if its a dedicated gpu can i upgrade it to fix the problem or do i need to replace the whole motherboard?
thanks, -
Only 50% of the GPU's can be replaced in laptops, you'll find more here about what you need to know. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179833
But I can tell you if you do need a new mobo, ask your supplyer for the best graphics card to suit your laptops mobo (most laptop models come out with at least 2 different G/cards to suit the buyers budget or needs at purchase, since you may need a mobo anyway, why not try to get the best card/mobo you can for your model laptop) -
I am having this exact same problem. Approximately a year and a half after purchase.

I'm thinking after replacing the screen cable that this in fact a fault with the graphics card.
The Philips x57 comes with a dedicated Nvidia Geforce Go 7400 graphics card. I may look into replacing this...
