    Hi all -

I'm a total newbie at this forum, so there is a possibility I'm posting in the wrong area - sorry.

I'm having a screen problem. My laptop fell and the screen cracked. Less than 1/4 was still functional; important.

I unscrewed the old screen and removed it, leaving the video cable alone. I ordered a new screen, which arrived in good condition.

I installed the new screen and turned the laptop on. All I got was a blank/black screen...there is no image.

The thing is: now if I re-install the original cracked screen I get a black screen (no image) and there is a quiet buzzing sound. Prior to the original removal, the screen's lower right hand corner was working. I could see the pointer, etc..

    Any thoughts?

Please help, it's driving me nuts and I do need my lap top if only for the software it has.

    Thank you.

Can you connect it to an external monitor and see if it works? If so, then it's possible your new screen is not compatible with your cable or your motherboard. If not, then something other than the screen is broken.

Yes. I can connect it to an external monitor without any problem. It works perfectly. But it might as well be a desktop if I have to use an external monitor.

Yes, the screens are compatible. I asked laptopscreen.com and did my own research in that regard. The screens are compatible.

When I reinstall the broken screen, the screen is blank and there is a soft buzzing sound. Before, I had 1/4 of the screen worked and there was no buzzing sound.

What can the sound be indicative of? Any thoughts? I'm totally lost!!!

Buzzing usually indicates a bad electrical connection somewhere. Check the cable on both ends, but particularly on the end that connects to the motherboard.

No, I think in this case the buzzing simply indicates an inverter/ccfl issue or incompatibility.

I don't think there would be a problem with the motherboard connection if he never touched it.

When you say the screen is "blank", do you mean its showing black/white image on the display? Or, does it look exactly the same as it does when its disconnected or turned off? If the latter then its definitely an inverter problem.

Hello you have to check your connections something may not be plugged in right. What kind of laptop do you have it is and LED or LCD(back-light)? If you have checked all Connections than you have a bad LCD. Check your LCD cable to make sure it is not torn or any damage to it at all.

    Hope this helps.
