I originally posted this in the dell forum, but it probably won't get much traffic over there... my apologies for the somewhat double post:
I've had a laptop (dell inspiron 9100, but this is a universal question) with a WUXGA screen for 4 and a half years now and it's still holding up strong... until I dropped the laptop and broke the screen. I'm looking for a replacement and am wondering if I can buy a WXGA screen (it's cheaper) made for my model of laptop and have it still work with the system I have. I don't care about the resolution since I use an giant external monitor as my primary screen, but I do need the laptop screen to work in case I ever need to reinstall windows... my external monitor doesn't seem to work until the driver kicks in in windows, (unless someone can save me $80-$100 and explain how I can set it to show the booting, etc. on the external monitor, probably by going blind into the BIOS and changing the settings in there) and reinstalling windows without a monitor is pretty much impossible.
Thanks for the help in advance...

Interesting coincidence. I had an Inspiron 9100 and have an lcd screen I'm willing to sell. It's practically new. No scratches, dead pixels, or issues unlike what you risk getting on ebay.
PM me if you're interested. -
LOL that is a seriously coincidental situation. Good luck sorting it out guys.

Mind PM'ing me instead? I'm definitely interested if it's a WUXGA screen (still haven't figured out if any other resolutions screens would work, hence the original post) -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You don't have enough posts to send or receive private messages. I think you need twenty?

I think the limit is 15 posts (although I could be wrong and it might even just be 10). -
Well dang, I'll have to find some insightful comments to make...

If you use PayPal to buy on EBay I can't see you getting ripped off, every time I have opened a dispute in PayPal, I've been refunded within 48 hour and usually in 24. I'd say you can get a better deal 99/100 there.

IIRC, there were four resolutions offered with the 9100 at the time.
wxga, wsxga, wsxga+, wuxga.
I chose the wsxga+ to strike a upper middle ground between density and readability at the 15.4" size. All the above screens will work with your system and of course, mine came off a 9100.
So, you might have your heart set on the wuxga. Then again, if you're using an external monitor most it may not be much of an issue.
Anyway, take your time and let me know. -
Hey, if it works, WSXGA+ is great for me...
Dang, I'm at 21 posts... cmon PM -
