Please could you suggest 17" laptops with a spare hdd bay?

I don't want to swap out my optical drive or use a hybrid hdd/ssd. or use an external drive.

Acer's website says the 17.3" V3 allows for 'an optional second hard drive ' but their customer service agents say it doesn't. I'm not having a lot of luck getting accurate info from them.

    thanks!

Most Sager/Clevo/Gigabyte etc can accommodate multiple drives.

I've never heard of those brands - are they available in the UK?

Clevo mostly makes gaming laptops but has more multimedia focused laptops too... In the uk, mySN, PC Specialist and Scan 3XS sell Clevo laptops...

Have you checked out the latest offerings from HP? Ive been using an HP Pavillion DV7t-6100 (quad core I7) since 2011 and find it to be wonderful. I built mine on the website but they often have Costco/BestBuy/Walmart offerings that have space for the 2nd bay but no actual drive in there... you can add latter.

You could always look at one of the older platforms, i.e. the M6700 or M6600, either refurbished or used.

That's ok. I don't want to buy it with the extra drive - I just want to add it later.

I had a couple of HP printers in the past and was continually plagued by pop-ups . How are they for bloatware etc and what's the build quality like?

Gotcha. That's a M6800, so you may be able to find a 6700 or 6600 in your budget range.

The 15.6" equivalent (M4800/4700/etc.) can also accommodate a second drive in place of the optical drive, plus an mSATA drive, so if you can compromise on screen size, something like that might be an option.

Thanks for that. They only have two - one is well over £1k and the other is just about in my price range but no webcam or wan card so it's a bit under spec. I can see why - you don't always want those things on a biz machine so its nice not to have to pay for something you dont want.

have a look at the Dell inspiron 17 7737 on the outlet: http://outlet.euro.dell.com/(X(1)S(....aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dfh&cs=ukdfh1&puid=b58ac2a4

It comes to around 700 and it's got great specs IMO... It should come with a GT750M GDDR5 I believe... The 15" definetly has one, I'm not sure about the 17" version though... It also has a touchscreen :D

Edit: It doesn't have a 2nd HDD bay from the looks of it however you can always replace the optical drive with a HDD caddy which is easily available and put the 1TB HDD there (limited to SATA I/II performance which isn't a problem) and have the SSD running at SATA 3 speeds in the main bay..
