    Hi.

If you have an LED screen, anything upto 11 years continues use, or as most people have a cold cathode tube, a fluorescent tube, see below.

It depends on the brightness level and how long you use it, but the gradually get darker as they age.

So it you want to make it last as long as possible, keep the brightness as low as you are happy with, and turn the screen off when you are not using it.

    Regards

    John.

By the time it dies, your other internal components are buried in their graves [figuratively speaking, of course. Dispose of your electronics properly!]

    Oh yeah, that too. :D

I wonder if LED's [as opposed to the common CCFL's] have different lifespans though...

Well they are more efficient so theoritically they should burn out much slower than ccfl backlighting...

The lcd should last a long time. The main thing that would go is the backlight inverter but that is cheap and easy to replace. I think the first thing that will become apparent is a tendency for the lcd to get image retention, but thats not a huge dea.

It won't ruin the physical LCD (the part that produces the image), but it could cause your backlight to burn out faster.... That being said, this would take several years of normal use.

Don't worry about it. Your other components will die sooner than your LCD.

I think the LCD inverter has less lifespan then the LCD itself
