does anyone know which would give better sound, especially better 3d gaming audio?

i have a pair fo $45 altec lansing headphones that i bought years ago and work fine but just use them with the internal soundcard of the laptop. i purchased the g35 yesturday and it obviously blows away the older headphones but i am thinking this is because it has an internal sound procesing chip or something? the headphones were $143 with tax and ordering the external soundcard will be another $60 dollars more but if it has much better surround sound and i can use my older headphones with it i may go that route.

I still got my Steelseries Siberia and it is much better than my last headset.
But i cant say for sure that you will get any improvement with a external sound card.

i also have a sony home theatre 24 bit DSP 5.1 surround sound system that my tv is hooked up to. i do have 5.1 speakers for that. i am wondering if i can connect my laptop to that sound system and run the headphones through it but not sure how that works.

in other words, i would like the home theatre system to do the audio decoding and not the laptop so i can achieve better sound through headphones and surround sound.

nvm this thread. i actually figured out how to get the home reciever to decode the audio for true DTS 5.1 when viewing a movie. looks like pc games do not support true DTS, only xbox and ps3 games do right now.
