My laptop has a 720p touch display. i want to upgrade it to IPS 1080p but i know nothing about upgrading panels or where, how i can find one compatible.

my 720p display part number is 720549-001, any recommendation?

and is it possible to upgrade a touch display's panel?

Upgrading a display is often the most difficult upgrade to make. Finding a compatible screen is usually not easy unless your machine came with a 1080p, which will make it a more likely proposition. You might want to post over in the HP forum where you're more likely to find information. By the time you find a screen if there's one available and do the upgrade, potentially breaking something, you might be better off just selling your notebook and getting what you want.

Yeah, I'd personally never upgrade a screen in a laptop, it's just asking for trouble. The odds in finding a compatible screen with the same connections and form factor are going to be almost impossible, and even if you do the cost (I would assume) would make it prohibitive regardless unless you can find a broken older laptop or a third party screen and not one made by HP.

Just search for screen replacements, they are not that expensive.

Basically everything worth buying is eDP those days.

    Just ask in the forum.

There's not guarantee your model has a better option out there, but it doesn't hurt to try.

You'll be able to find a replacement for your laptop sure, but an upgrade is what I'm doubting (But I could be wrong!)

Yeah, an external monitor will work.

You'll need a decent video card to support 4k what type of video card is in your laptop?

I'd usually recommend getting a 1080p screen instead of a 4k screen unless you have a very powerful video card.

According to the HP website you have a

NVIDIA GeForce 850M in your laptop

    it does support 4k

You probably won't visible notice any difference between 1080p and 4k on a desktop screen, you still might want to go with a 1080p screen.

Thanks, i found the cost of 1080p IPS panels is high so i decided to get IPS 1080p 24" or 27" external monitor

I don't know about this upgrade if you want 4k just get a gaming laptop that can output that or Desktop with 980Ti that can go 4k. What you expecting your HP to do will not work nor will it last in the short term. And hp doesn't make a 4k laptop or one close to it. Your info about it doing that is just that doing that not actually being able to handle that output in that configuration. HP laptop consumers unless stated by HP going 4k I doubt it can do it properly.
