    Hello -

I need to do a clean install and wanted to know what utility people are using to low level format this particular drive.

    Take care,

It is unlikely you would be able to do a low level format of your HDD even if you wanted ( link). Do you mean reinitialization? If so back to the question, why? Or do you really want to do a high level format?

I think I have a virus the cpu is at 100% and nothing shows up in task manager. I want to start over with a clean drive.

You can do a format with the OS CD you are using to install with (it is an option during the installation process)

Did you already run the virus scanner? What process is running at 100%?

Have you tried Ad-aware or Spybot in safemode?

But if you're still thinking of starting over, I'm pretty sure any 'normal' format will get rid of spyware.

Sorry, I did not read anywhere that you have run scans or what you have done to try to rectify the situation you are in.

Formatting during installation of the OS will ensure a clean drive, so long as the virus has not spread to other partitions/drives (if any) on your computer.
