    G'day all,
Just purchased an Alienware m14x r2 with a 256gb ssd. Looking to add an additional internal storage. Concerned that when ssd fills up will lose performance, any advice as to what my best options are and roughly how much I'm looking at as far as cost is concerned? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

You have an empty mSATA port, which accepts mSATA SSD.

The 14x only supports 1 2.5" with the ODD in place, but you can buy a HDD caddy in place of the ODD. But I have no idea if it will run at SATA 3 6G/s

Btw, did you buy the SSD upgrade from dell? Sounds like you got robbed in broad daylight.

Only SandForce based SSDs lose performance when filled up AFAIK, I haven't had this issue with Samsung or Intel.

Not to be out of topic, but is a Vertex 4 and Crucial M4 a sandforce SSD?

Nope Vertex 4 is Indilinx Everest 2 (but really a Marvell controller) while the M4 uses a Marvell controller too.

If it's the Samsung 830 you won't have this problem with it slowing down as it fills up. Me personally I would just get an external hard drive and not bother with the caddy.

You could theoretically also get an mSATA drive, a bigger internal drive, and sell off that Samsung 830, but that might be too much of a pain. Up to you!
