Sorry for more questions, it's just such a big purchase I don't want to spend $$ on options that are worthless.

I know the extreme X9000 is supposed to be the fastest notebook processor available, but with the rumor of it not being able to be OC'd, is it worth the extra $375 over the 2.6?

Is it a speed or performance difference anyone will truly notice?

Thank you again for your help,
    Andrea

best bet imho is T9300, best for games too as games arent overly CPU dependant. Unless ur transcoding at doing CAD work dont bother with the x9000 or t9500

you should just get the t9300. you wont notice the difference with .3 ghz extra power. you also cant oc it so theres no point in extreme processor.

I would also ask you to stick to T9300.

Yeah I would also say stick with the t9300 I went from the t7700 to the x9000 and I don't see a HUGE difference (expect when using cpu dependent program like converting my movies) Don't get me wrong the x9000 is faster but I didn't notice in gaming.

I am not going to disagree with anyone above. T9300 is the smart choice. But the "rumor"? X means unlocked, so I know nothing of this "rumor"?

EDIT: The T9500 is less than 4% over the T9300 so with out a stop watch (and maybe even with) I don't see why regardless of what you run it would matter?

you can overclock an x9000, but whether you can overclock it in the m17/15x
is whats in question. Overclocking via bios is definitely not an option with m17x, and I assume its not an option with m15x as nobody has advertised it as being overclockable in that way.

I assume if you are determined enough it would be possible, but as yet I have seen nobody saying that they've overclocked the m15x via software or otherwise - hence I assume its not an "easy" possibility.

You don`t need an Xtreme CPU , you can OK the T9300 upto 2.8 EASILY and you don`t have to pay ridiculous prices.
Also the m15/m17x are OVERPRICED for what they offer.
Look at : Sager 5793 and Sager 9262 for 17 inchers(non SLI,respectively SLI) and the upcoming Clevo M860TU for 15inch laptops with the 8800M GTX.
