About a year in on my m50sv-a1 with vista-32 bit and 3g ram, and my computer started blue screening constantly with about 10 different errors (irql_not_less_or_equal, and a few others, pagefaults, etc). Figured out that it was a ram issue, specifically my 2 gig ram chip, when i tried it with just the 2gig chip it would go blue right after the splash screen and not even stay on long enough to see what it said. (right now i'm running with just the 1 gig in there).

So i'm looking at buying new ram. I know the original was hynix 677mhz PC2-5300 5-5-5-12 ram. (HYMP125S64CP8-Y5 AB). My qustion is which ram i should buy to replace it?

First can the M50sv-a1 support and utilize DDR2 800mhz PC2-6400 ram? or is it limited in some other way even though it has 800mhz FSB (does it?).

Second, which brand should i get? i was looking at corsair or crucial but i'm open to suggestions. Crucial's site says that the computer can handle both types apparently.

I was also considering replacing both sticks with fresh ram and just getting 4 gigs even though vista 32-bit doesn't support that much.

    Looking forward to your suggestions,

    Kavaskar

Some good stuff. $51 shipped. Namebrand, low latency for better performance, 4GB. Lifetime warranty. Vista will see all 4 gigs but only be able to use 3.2-3.5. My system uses 3.5. 4 gigs is worth it for dual channel mode and for the fact that if you decide to install 64bit later all 4 gigs will be used.

Your laptop can use 800 mhz ram but might downclock it to 667.

Here's the newegg ddr2 667 laptop ram page if you want to shop around.

Even though I have 4 gigs in my system, my wife doesn't in hers and will be getting my current RAM once the above linked kingston hyperx shows up.
