m6600, USB 3.0 ports loses connection

Anytime I hook up an enclosure to the USB 3.0 port, it will work for a minute or so and then loses connection. I have tried three different enclosures and I get the same result

However, when I connect that same enclosure to a USB 2.0 port on the same laptop, it works fine, no problems (just transferred over 100 gigs through it)

I updated the firmware, driver and I am still getting the same problem

Is this a Sandy bridge issue? Is this a hardware issue? I searched the web and there are other people with the same problem, but not a specific one like I have

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Haswell is supposed to have had an usb 3.0 issue not Sandybridge, even then some say it was only on Desktop motherboards, have you tried an recovery maybe another driver or piece of software is affecting your usb 3.0

Can you elaborate on what you mean by recovery?

Not sure of any software that could be affecting it. Forgot to mention when I connect a logitech nano receiver or a bluetooth dongle to the USB 3.0 port, I do not get a lost connection.

EDIT:

I used another USB 3.0 enclosure and I have no problems with transferring large files. So I can safely assume it has to do with the mediasonic enclosure, but I still does not make sense that it works perfectly fine with USB 2.0, but not with USB 3.0 port

 

Could this possibly be caused by a wireless router operating very close to the USB3.0 port (when operating in USB 3.0 mode - probably drops down to USB 2.0 speeds with the nano receiver and/or Bluetooth dongle)?

Can you try disabling the WiFi on your system and use a LAN connection (if you need internet/LAN access, of course) while you're testing the USB3.0 port with an external drive?

I know the latest Asus routers with USB 3.0 ports don't work too well and refuse to even mount the drives (and wreak havoc with the 2.4GHz band) with a USB 3.0 connection - at USB 2.0 speeds though, the same ports work without issue.

Not sure if this is the same issue - but just offering another data point to track this down for you.


(You can even try a better shielded USB 3.0 cable - there are better and worse ones out there).

Try and update the USB 3.0 drivers and or reinstall them. I believe Intel uses Fresco Logic USB 3.0 drivers get the latest from them,, AMD worked with , Renesas Electronics

I disabled the wifi and still lost connection

Tried to install Fresco Logic USB 3.0 driver and did not go through because it was not found.


I did more research and found out that I am not the only person with this problem (would have figured it out, but I did this at 5 in the morning)

The Mediasonic HF2-SU3S2 has a problem with connecting via usb 3.0 and I have followed what they recommended (except the hub) but to no avail. I might sell the enclosure, get a hub, use esata instead. Who knows

Ah, seems like the enclosure itself has issues with USB3.0 transfers. Try the eSATA port and hope it is not wired through the USB 3.0 circuitry.

 

Esata would work, but I would have to buy an esata card that supports port multiplier. I have one, but I do not know where I put it at.

At the moment, I am looking at a thread for flush USB 3.0 adapters as this is my only choice.

 

I just had an disconnection my self, i was copying about 15gb from my Seagate 4TB External to my Laptop and it was about half way though when i heard the usb disconection/reconnection sound, and i now have to start the copy again.

Tinkderbox (UK), are you also using the same Mediasonic HF2-SU3S2 enclosure?

Or is it your notebook (which one) that disconnected?
