My AW m7700 laptop went bad not long ago and it looked like a video card problem since I have seen it before on this lapy. I bought a New card on e-bay and it didnt fix it. I then bought a used tested motherboard from ebay from a power seller. It fixed the video problem but when the lapy starts it says - a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt=del to restart. I have tryed reseating the hard drives several times.(rad-0) Is there something else wrong or is there a problem with the motherboard.

Yes there is a solution to your problem

The replacement motherboard which you bought is an early model motherboard. If you are running an AMD platform you will need a motherboard with revision 5.1 or 5.2 to read SATA 300 drives. On the Intel platform you will need a motherboard with revision 6.5 or later to read SATA 300 drives

Any board with models below these values will not be able to read a SATA 300 drive.

    You have two options,
    1) return the motherboard and specfically ask for a newer revision motherboard, 5.1 or later on amd, and 6.5 or later on the intel
    2) Find out which company manufacturers your harddrive. You will need to find a diagnostic tool on there website. You will need to change the harddrive's firmware from SATA 300 to SATA 150.
You can read more about that in my thread here:

    Good luck,
