Can anybody share their benchmarks (CDM or ATTO) for an mSATA III SSD connected to an mSATA II port?
I am thinking of buying the MyDigitalSSD Smart Series III mSATA SSD for a T430s, but the T430s appears (not confirmed) to support mSATA II only.
I guess it would make ~1-2s difference in boot time, but it would be good to know.
Thank you.

Ok we did some testing to find out the differences.
Series BP3 64GB 128GB 256GB
Drivers IASTOR MSAHCI MSAHCI
Crystal Disk Score
SATA III Sequential Read 317.8 496 477.6
Sequential Write 102.1 219.5 225.3
4K Read 15.23 26 26
4K Write 21.39 38.1 41
SATA II Sequential Read XXX 263.3 267.4
Sequential Write XXX 233 223.4
4K Read XXX 24.9 25.3
4K Write XXX 34.2 39
Series Smart 64GB 128GB 256GB
Drivers MSAHCI MSAHCI MSAHCI
Crystal Disk Score
SATA III Sequential Read 389.8 476.4 470
Sequential Write 95.5 189.7 197.5
4K Read 22.8 29.7 34
4K Write 83.3 85.34 83.24
SATA II Sequential Read 266 258 273.3
Sequential Write 95.7 192 196.8
4K Read 23.3 27 31.3
4K Write 67.9 69.9 71.9
So it appears there is a difference but very small.
I think it would be safe to say that the BP3 or Smart Series on SATA II vs SATA III will be a solid performer on both platforms.

P.S. 64GB BP3 was not tested fully we ran out of time.
Additional observation: I don't want to shoot myself in the foot here but I personally could tell no difference between the two during windows us. They are both blazing fast drives. -

Most real world situations are limited by the random read and to a lesser extent random write speeds. These, even in the top consumer drives cannot surpass, sata 150, so going to a higher bandwidth bus will not significantly improve this.

@MyDigitalSSD - Thanks a lot for the detailed comparison.
The SmartSeries does show some benefit compared to the BP3. -

but I have the e430 Thinkpad with a 3rd generation i7
it comes with the Sandisk U100 16gb msata SSD.
I did a benchmark on it. according to what I found online, the u100 is a sata3?... I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger and hopefully faster msata drive. 8GB of the msata is allocated to an IFFS partition for the intel quick boot/hibernation feature. which leaves only 6GB for cache purposes. Not enough considering I use XP mode which is blazing fast now that its cache. I finally setup expresscache. xp mode (vpc) opens and desktop ready within seconds!. Bootracer says cold boot to desktop ready is 27 seconds. without expresscache its 113 seconds.
judging by the benchmark it looks like the thinkpads msata port is Sata2...
unless I hit a wall with the u100 and thats its max speed.
I was looking into purchasing the smart series 128GB which should provide ample cache considering I'm tossing in a 1TB hard drive in there. -

soccrstar, as you can see from the benchmarks I did your computer will notice the same high speed 4K #'s by using the SATA III solution. Either solution we offer is going to be night and day compared to what you have going on on your computer right now. In fact I cannot believe that they would go to market with that Sandisk mSATA. That is the kinda thing that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Glad you have the gumption to fix their inadequacy I guarantee this will not be a once bitten twice shy issue you will love SSD once you upgrade to ours.

The MydigitalSSD smart series 128gb is actually a rebadged ADATA SX300
Also should be advertising it as a 120GB vs 128GB since the sandforce system eats away at 8gigs. will post more photos later as they are on my phone.
Benchmarks are In!
As You can see and contrary to what lenovo sales says... the Msata in the Lenovo e430 and possibly other laptops (can't talk for the other ones) is in fact SATAII. It comes with a 16GB Sandisk U100 msata SSD and from what I see in benchmarks and what I've seen in use. you NEED a bigger one! and pretty much anything is a major upgrade in terms of speed and performance.
I can't say how a SATAII card will perform as I've never had one. the sandisk U100 is an SATAIII as the MydigitalSSD Smart Series
but I hope these benchmarks help -

Would like to point out the negative # in that test is a good thing
as well as all the positives of course.
Yes it is a rebrand of the fastest mSATA out right now.
It is a 128GB showing up as 120GB rather than a 120GB showing up as 111GB. All flash memory devices are like this even flash cards it is due to the way your computer reads the device. There is a very popular article about it I thought it was titled "The Misleading MB" but I cannot seem to find it right now.
Your computer should feel a lot faster now. What do you think?

If not mistaken the availability need to minus 7%...

I have did a clean install and now have my OS on the msata 128gb SSD and loving the speed. expresscache only limits you to 32GB and had to rest of the ssd just sitting there so I said screw it and installed the OS on it.
so I have replaced the msata, the Hard drive with a 1TB from 500gb and have 16GB ram from 4GB. and its like a whole new laptop. faster in every way then my desktop! which is now slouch running a Q8200 quad core. -
